DYRS seeks employers with entry-level positions who are willing to train or employ young people, ages 16-21.The DYRS Office of Workforce Development partners with local businesses and service providers to offer internships, subsidized employment and unsubsidized employment for court-involved youth ages 16-21. Youth gain experience working in administrative offices, retail establishments, technology companies and small businesses. Youth also earn professional certifications in areas such as Microsoft Office, barbering, IT copper cabling, hospitality, construction and the culinary arts.
The local businesses get access to candidates with certifications, industry-related training, job readiness, and on-going career coaching and mentoring. Businesses have a single point of contact with a DYRS Workforce Development Specialist who is there to support the employer, the hiring manager, and the youth. DYRS identifies and refers youth for placement based upon a business' specific needs and the youth's career interests and skills. Businesses may qualify for a federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit for each qualifying new hire.

DYRS recently partnered with the Institute for Educational Leadership to launch DC RAMP, an evidence-based program that provides high-tech, career focused mentoring services to youth as they transition from secure detention at New Beginnings back to the community. DC RAMP was developed with the assistance of a three-year grant from the US Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
