New Beginnings residents T.J. and S.D. helped design a powerful new art installation for the GO-GO Museum in Washington, DC, a vibrant tribute to the city’s iconic music scene.
This creative collaboration brings together the visionary architectural firm To Be Done (TBD) Studio, Check-It Enterprises, and our very own OASIS Reserve. The installation features a striking wall of buckets shaped into the bold letters “GO-GO” — an homage to the legendary Junk Yard Band. Known for making music with whatever they could find, including buckets from around their DC neighborhood, the band’s spirit lives on through this piece.
“I’ve always loved creating things with my hands, and I am so happy to see something positive I contributed to in the community,” T.J. shared with a smile. She is proud of the project and plans to stay connected with Check-It Enterprises upon her return to the community.
S.D. also assisted with welding the mounting structure. When asked about getting a welding certification, he said: “I enjoyed this project, but I plan to get to college soon. I want a business degree.”
A heartfelt thank you goes out to TBD founder Omar Hakeem, architect Mika Yamaguchi, designer Brandon Robles, Check-It Enterprises co-founder Ron Moten, our dedicated OASIS staff, and especially to T.J. and S.D. for helping craft an installation that captures the energy, resilience, and creativity of DC’s GO-GO culture, something the whole community will celebrate for years to come.
