District’s Juvenile Justice Agency (DYRS) Celebrates the Opening of Its Automotive Shop

Heightens Focus on Vocational Opportunities for All Residents

(Laurel, Maryland) – On Tuesday, September 26, at 11:30 am, the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) will hold a ribbon cutting opening for “Carl’s Cars” at New Beginnings Youth Development Center. “Carl’s Cars”, the facility’s automotive training shop for youth in its care, is named after DYRS staffer Carl Matthews in honor of his decades of service and mentoring. The facility is in line with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s focus on economic prosperity for all DC residents, including an increased focus on vocational job training for young people who have interacted with the criminal justice system. Click here for a virtual tour!
