Youth Confidentiality

DYRS and Youth Confidentiality

The District of Columbia has strict laws protecting the confidentiality of youth in the juvenile justice system.

DYRS takes its obligation to safeguard juvenile records seriously, and maintaining youth confidentiality and non-disclosure of involvement in the juvenile justice system is vital in the context of successful rehabilitation and re-integration into the community.

As such, DYRS will only release confidential juvenile records in limited circumstances to parties authorized by law to receive them, such as Family Court case participants or certain government employees when necessary for the discharge of their duties.

Thank you for your cooperation on this important matter.
